JONES, Owen. ~ The Song of Songs which is Solomons. London: Longman & Co., 1849.
8vo (200 × 128 mm, pp. fully illuminated in chromolithography with gold. One tiny spot of adhesion between two pages with very slight loss to illumination. Original blindstamped leather. Rubbed. A good copy.
First edition. ‘It was chromolithographed in two reds, two blues, a green, gold and black. The combination of cramped gothic script and coldly formalized ornament makes unsympathetic and illegible pages, which must have prevented most purchasers of the book from reading it. It is probably the most unsuitable setting the Song has ever received’ (McLean). McLean, Victorian Book Design and Colour Printing (2nd ed.) p. 93.
