First edition. A French translation of The Postman Always Rings Twice (1934) a crime fiction and the first novel written by Cain. This work was both successful and notorious on publication and has been regarded as one of the most important crime novels of the twentieth-century. However its mix of violence and sexuality was deemed highly unsuitable and startling, subsequently causing the novel to be banned in Boston. This edition also includes a preface by Némirovsky, a novelist of Ukrainian Jewish origin, born in Kiev, Ukraine under the Russian empire, she spent over half her life living in France.
