Manuscript in Latin on single parchment sheet (c. 90 × 290 mm), 13 lines, remains of red wax personal seal, signed at foot ‘By me Edward Colvile’. Folded, slightly stained (but mostly legible), old hole/flaw to parchment at lower fold, docketed on verso.

Edward Colville, clothier of Cranbrook, son of Edmund Colville deceased, releases his claim to messuages, tenements and gardens in the town to Thomas Colville. Cranbrooke had been the centre of the Wealden cloth industry since Edward III had brought Flemish weavers to the town.
