First edition of this translation of La Vida de Santa Teresa de Jesus by English Catholic convert, courtier and exile, Tobie Matthew. It is dedicated to the Queen of England, Henrietta Maria, who in 1642 was in the Hague attempting to raise money against the royal jewels for Charles’s cause in the recently erupted Civil War.
