First edition. Whitehead became poet laureate in 1757, and saw his role as such to ‘wake with verse the hardy deed’ (quoted in Oxford DNB): ‘Britons, rouse to deeds of Death!--- / Waste not zeal in idle breath, / Nor lose the harvest of your Swords / In a Civil War of Words!
