First edition. The Seatonian prize poem for 1762. Scott ‘was educated at Bradford grammar school and from 1752 at St Catharine’s College, Cambridge. He later moved to Trinity College, and graduated BA in 1757, whereupon he was elected fellow; he proceeded MA in 1760, BD in 1768, and DD in 1775. He won the Seatonian poetry prize on three occasions and was a frequent and admired preacher at the university church between 1760 and 1764’ (Oxford DNB).
