The Seatonian Prize poem for 1759; the first published work by the future Bishop of London. ‘He wrote feelingly, for he had recently lost both his parents; but his extravagant eulogy of George II caused him to be gibbeted by Thackeray in a well-known passage in “The Four Georges”’ (DNB).
