O’KEEFFE, John. ~ Oatlands; or the Transfer of the Laurel. A Poem... London: Printed for. Debrett... 1795.
4to (261 × 202 mm) in half-sheets, pp. 10, plus final blank; light marginal waterstain; disbound.
First and only edition. This is apparently the second copy known (COPAC, ESTC and WorldCat together locate a sole copy, at the British Library) of the only separately-published poem by the successful Irish dramatist, written in praise of Princess Frederica of Prussia. She married Prince Frederick, Duke of York (George III’s favourite son), in 1791. ‘There were no children of the marriage; husband and wife soon separated, and the duchess of York retired to Oatlands Park [near Weybridge, Surrey]. A modest, self-effacing woman, she cared little for London society, preferring the company of her pet dogs, and attending church every Sunday’ (Oxford DNB). Jackson, p. 201.
