8vo (206 × 128 mm) in half-sheets, pp. iv, 111, ; engraved title-page, with a large vignette by Hassell; marginal tear to D1 and K1; early nineteenth century half calf, rebacked; the Sutherland copy, with blind-stamped arms to the sides.
A very rare collection, probably privately printed. The verse includes ‘Carravaggio; or, the Disappointment of Avarice; inscribed to Benjamin West’, ‘To mental Taste’, ‘To corporeal Taste’, and ‘A Contest between Love and Wine’.
Thomas Nicholls, of whom little is known, also published Shenstone; or, the Force of Benevolence. A Poem (1776), Sable Victims. A Barbadoes Narration (1789; New York Historical Society only), and The Wreath; a Collection of Poems (c.1790). Not in Jackson. ESTC locates 3 copies only: BL, Texas, and Yale.
