Clark, Congregationalist minister and poet of Trowbridge (Wiltshire), writes ‘These poems were chiefly the productions of my younger years, but having been of late confined by a severe fit of illness, it afforded me an opportunity of revising and correcting these juvenile compositions. They will all be found to have a moral tendency...’ (’To the Reader’).
A note at the foot of the contents page reads: ‘The book binder will take notice that in some of the copies at page 97, Signature M is in mistake put for O’ [as in this copy]. Not in Jackson; Johnson, 190.
