Contemporary diced calf, gilt panelled spine. Engraved presentation label of the League, dated Manchester 1854, to front pastedown. Early (continental) library stamp to verso of initial blank and in gilt to foot of spine. An excellent copy.
First edition, presentation copy. The Anti-Corn Law League offered prizes for essays showing the results of the repeal of the corn-law and the free-trade policy, and Dunckley, a pioneering journalist of social causes, gained the first prize of £250 for this work
