First edition in French of Observations upon the state of the nation, in January 1712/3, an assessment of the position of Great Britain on the eve of the Hanoverian succession. It is primarily concerned with the problem of the succession, but also with the economy and commerce of the nation. There are several references to American affairs and to relations with the Spanish and their American affairs, notably the slave-trade. The work has been attributed to Nottingham, but also on occasion to William Wotton.
