(FRENCH REVOLUTION. MANUSCRIPT.)
(FRENCH REVOLUTION. MANUSCRIPT.) Mémoire sur les fonctions des Assemblées Administrative de District et de leurs Directoires.   [France:  1790.]
Folio (320 x 215 mm), ff. [36], of which 6 are blank, three gatherings sewn with a pink silk ribbon. Manuscript on paper, a single cursive but legible hand throughout. Occasional minor dust-staining, mainly to covers, but otherwise clean and fresh.
An interesting French revoutionary document, being a contemporary scribal copy of the successive instructions issued to the newly established local district Assemblées during 1790 concerning their jurisdiction and operation. In September 1789 the Abbé Sièyes had instituted the development of an ideal administration for the French towns and countryside, dividing the territory into Departements, Districts, Cantons and Communes, each with their own elected assemblies, regardless of their historical administrative arrangements. The formation of these assemblies, which occupied an administrative level between the assemblies of the department and the canton, was an important legal and symbolic break with the local government of the Ancien régime.
