An early edition of Aubigné's controversial invective against the enemies of Protestantism in France, which takes the form of a prose dialogue between the Catholic courtier Baron de Fæneste, the satirical anti-hero and a Protestant gentleman named Enay. The pretentious affectations of the hero Fæneste (from the Greek phainesthai, to appear) are contrasted with the modesty of the country squire Enay (from einai, to be). The title was previously published in Maille in 1617, 1619 and 1620, and also in 1630 with the same false imprint as this edition. It was also published a number of times in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, most notably the 1855 edition which was edited by Prosper Mérimée.
KVK shows two copies of this edition, at Staatsbibliotheck zu Berlin and Library Network of Western Switzerland.
