Contemporary straight grain navy calf, red morocco labels with gilt lettering (including volume number "10" and "Bentham's Works"), wide gilt raised bands, marbled edges and endpapers. Labels slightly chipped, little worn. Joints expertly repaired. A good copy.
First edition, with an excellent provenance. George Bentham was the nephew and heir of Jeremy Bentham, with whom he enjoyed a close relationship. This title was edited by Peregrine Bingham, based on original manuscripts by Bentham, as well as Dumont's recension of Bentham's writings on political fallacies, Tactique des assemblées législatives, suivie d'un traité des sophismes politiques (1816).
