First edition, with a nice Maggs provenance. A history of England's Glorious Revolution of 1688, from the library of Henri, comte de Chambord, who was the Legitimist pretender to the crown of France from 1844 to 1883, having disputably reigned as Henri V, King of France and Navarre for just seven days in 1830 following the July Revolution. In similarly turbulent times for the monarchy, England's 'bloodless' Revolution of 1688 saw the downfall of James II, who was overthrown and replaced by William of Orange. This period marked the advent of modern parliamentary democracy in England, with an end to absolute monarchy and the introduction of the Bill of Rights, which remains a cornerstone of English constitutional law.
