2 vols., 4to (302 x 243 mm.), pp. xxi, 310; xii, 407. 75 illustrations, some in coloured and mounted. Quarter vellum, blue cloth boards, gilt , yellow endpapers. Covers a little faded worn and rubbed, corners bumped and fraying, front tail hinge of vol. 1 cracked, abrasion to upper cover of second volume. Some pages remain uncut, edges sunned other wise clean and bright. Author’s presentation inscription (dated 1922) to preliminary leaf. A good set.
First edition, number 4 of 60 copies printed on hand-made paper. Presentation copy to the Edwardian novelist Marie Corelli, whose sentimental and often occult romances were devoured by the public, reviled the literary press and, strangely, admired by Oscar Wilde.
