BRONTE, Charlotte. Jane Eyre ou les mémoires d’une institutrice par Currer Bell. Roman Anglais traduit avec l’autorisation de l’auteur par Mme Lesbazeilles-Souvestre.  Paris: Hachette,  1859.
8vo (174 × 106 mm.), pp. [vi] (including half-title), ii, 459, [1]. Light scattered spotting to earlier leaves. Contemporary green quarter calf, gilt, marbled boards. A few minor chips to spine, but a very good copy.
A rare early edition in French, probably the first by Hachette who held the copyright until 1947, reprinting it numerous times. The translation had appeared first in 1854 (in two volumes), printed by Giraud. The previous Hachette edition (1855) to ours was actually just an abridgment by Dauran-Forgus.
Not in Symington, which lists the Giraud and earlier Hachette edition. COPAC lists copies at the British Library and Leeds only.
