First printed in 1730, it was reprinted numerous times in the eighteenth century in England and translated for use on the continent. There were several French editions but the first is rare.

Second edition, printed in the same year as the first, of this very succesful treatise on the use of excercise in the treatment of illness.

Fuller wrote from first-hand experience, having cured himself of severe hypochondriasis through riding and fresh air. He devotes an entire chapter to the benefits of riding. A third edition appeared in 1707, a fifth in 1718, a sixth in 1728, and a ninth and last in 1777.

First published in 1759 with a second edition in 1764, a Dublin edition in 1766 prior to this ‘third’ edition, Wallis’s Dictionary was influential.

A search of the Oxford English Dictionary finds 15 citations for words defined by Wallis (including acopon, brainlet, paralytic, rheumatic and withers). Wallis describes himself as ‘surgeon’ on the title-page of each edition and the Dictionary is an important source for the history of equine medicine.
