Palissot was one of the most potent of the anti-philosophes, lampooning Diderot and Rousseau in his popular play Les philosophes, first performed in 1755.

In La Dunciade, in the vein of Pope, Palissot continued his attacks in poetic form, making no attempt to disguise the subjects of his satire, who are named in both text and footnotes. Several editions appeared in 1764, all with a false ‘Chelsea’ imprint. Cioranescu lists two (pp. 76 and 108 respectively) while ESTC distinguishes four. All are scarce.
