L’Étendart was probably tutor to several fashionable amateur musicians in Paris: all the few compositions by him we have located contain personal engraved dedications, like the one here. This volume is an especially attractive Consulate-era artefact, in its striking red binding, bearing the ticket of the papetier Susse, whose shop was in the newly-opened Passage des Panoramas in the Grands Boulevards of Paris. From their origins as suppliers of paper and artists’ materials the firm of Susse later diversified into casting bronzes, counting Rodin among their clients.
