Folding lithographed panorama, each page (105 × 80 mm), 15 images on 4 sheets, all hand coloured and heightened with gold, original decorative embossed paper covered boards, the final scene pasted to the upper cover, gilt paper border, green cloth spine. Slightly rubbed, cover a little thumbed, one gold border missing, the interior remarkably fresh and bright.
Metz was in important centre for of popular publishing, its prodigious output in the early nineteenth century meriting the general term: ‘Imagerie Messine’. Jules Chaste, whose name appears on the cover of this untitled picture panorama, is known for his vivid colouration with gold highlights, both surviving in this ogre tale with exceptional freshness.
