Large 4to (428 × 327 mm, preserving deckle edges), pp. viii, , 95, , including ‘Explanation of the Engravings’ leaf, 43 engravings by and after Blake (comprising 4 engraved part titles and 39 etched and engraved pictorial borders), printed on wove paper watermarked ‘J Whatman 1794’; but the title printed on laid paper watermarked with a fleur-de-lys. Light browning, with occasional thumbing and offsetting. Later half calf, marbled boards. A very good copy.
First edition with Blake’s extraordinary engraved illuminations, a notably large uncut copy retaining deckle edges, engraved signatures and all Blake’s monograms. Complete with the ‘Explanation of the Engravings’ leaf.
