2 parts in one vol., 4to (270 × 205 mm), pp. [xii], 548; [x], 80, 528. Engraved frontispiece, title printed in red and black. Uncut in early pink-stained quarter pigskin. Marbled boards. A few flaws to uncut edges. Binding worn at extremities and the spine faded. Early inscription "James MacDowall" to title, engraved Hope family armorial bookplate.
Fifth edition (first published in Amsterdam in 1691) of one of the most important early English-Dutch dictionaries. Sewel, translator, lexicographer, and historian of Quakerism, visited England only once but he was in constant contact with the English speaking community in Amsterdam and corresponded widely with English associates (including fellow-Quaker William Penn).
