First edition of this comedy first acted at the Théâtre de Guénégaud, 9 August 1680. It was adapted as a farce for the English stage (Drury Lane) by George Farquhar as The stage-coach in 1709 and appeared in several English and Dutch editions. La Chapelle was born at Bourges in 1655 and was for some time in the service of the Princes of Conti.
