First edition of a work which marked the end of Edward Young's theatrical ambitions. He withdrew the play from rehearsal at Drury Lane in 1724 while seeking a place in the Irish church and it was not to be performed or published for many years. It is based directly on Corneille's Persée et Démétrius.
