(THEATRE). COWLEY, Mrs. [Hannah].

Albina, Countess Raimond; a tragedy, as it is performed at the Theatre-Royal in the Hay-Market.
London: T. Spilsbury for J. Dodsley; R. Faulder; L. Davis; T. Becket [and 7 others in London],   1779.
8vo, pp. [iv], viii, [4], 84. Disbound.
First edition of Hannah Cowley's first tragedy. The play began a bitter controversy between Cowley and Hannah More, who produced a strikingly similar play, Percy, shortly afterwards. A charge of plagiarism was levelled at More but never proved. Their exchange appeared in the St James's Chronicle and was reprinted in the Gentleman's magazine.
Nicoll III, 248.
