ANTOINE, A[ntoine].
Paris: Alexis Eymery, 1815.
16mo (144 × 90 mm.), pp. 196 (including half-title), plus additional engraved title and 3 plates (one bound as a frontispiece), all hand-coloured. Uncut in early twentieth-century polished calf gilt in the style of Rivière for Brentanos, spine richly gilt, two green morocco labels, top edge gilt. Joints very slightly rubbed. A very pretty copy.
First edition of this attractive juvenile title, an enthusiastic celebration of the Bourbon restoration in France and a suitably royalist approach to childhood. The frontispiece shows the imprisoned Louis XVI teaching his children, with a globe and dividers.
