Justin Croft Antiquarian Books are specialists in the sale and purchase of rare antiquarian books. We have an enviable reputation in the development of private and institutional collections in the United Kingdom and abroad. We work closely and creatively with collectors and librarians to help them find the books they seek.
We have extensive experience of developing collections in the traditional fields: literature, human sciences, science, medicine, art and architecture. Our approach however is interdisciplinary and we are especially interested in books which elude modern categorization - for example those which blur the boundaries between history and literature, science and magic, or religion and the occult. Additionally, while rarity alone is not our criterion of selection, we do try to find books outside the usual run of books to be found on the internet booksearch sites.
Our interests are unapologetically antiquarian and the majority of our books are from the period before 1850. Not only do we specialise in genuinely antiquarian books but also seek to find books which are themselves concerned with the past and reflect the spirit of antiquarianism in all its manifestations. We also have a strong interest in important books which have in some way altered the course of human thinking.
A selection of our stock can be viewed on this site, but we are always happy to hear from collectors with specific wants, or who seek specific advice on their collections. We regularly view sales in London and abroad and can discuss the options for working on commission. We also work closely with some of the best binders and conservators and can provide expert advice on repair and restoration.
